Soil testing and site preparation have been underway as the construction phase is set to begin in the summer of 2026
April 2026 Update
Design Update
• Project experienced substantial costs increase post-COVID
• Value Engineered design to reduce or stabilize increases
• Removed one-story (Type I residential units)
• Revised ground level floor plan to accommodate transformers
• Revised residential level floor plan & courtyards
• New art wall to comply with City conditions, ability to add rotating art exhibits in the future with City & BART approval
• Result = Very similar aesthetic, same unit count, lowered AMI levels
Summary Construction Schedule
The quarterly schedule:
- Q3 2026 - Relocate bus and passenger loading stops, fence site area, start affordable housing construction, start sanitary sewer and storm line upgrades.
- Q4 2026 - Start 5th, 7th & Chester Street streetscape improvements, complete storm line upgrade.
- Q1 2027 - Complete sanitary sewer main upgrade
- Q2 2027 - Start BART bike station construction
- Q3 2027 - Complete 7th Street improvements
- Q1 2028 - Start BART paseo improvements
- Q2 2028 - Complete BART bike station improvements
- Q3 2028 - Complete 5th, Chester, and BART paseo improvements
- Q4 2028 - Complete affordable housing project
